Robert Clark Seger born on May 6, 1945, is a retired American singer, songwriter, and musician. He is recognized as a roots rock artist known for his raspy, powerful voice and is among the best-known figures in the heartland rock genre. His music often explores themes related to love, women, and blue-collar life. Seger gained fame with hits including Night Moves, Turn the Page, Mainstreet, Still the Same, Hollywood Nights, Against the Wind, Youll Accomp'ny Me, Shame on the Moon, Roll Me Away, Like a Rock, and Shakedown. His song Shakedown was written for the 1987 film Beverly Hills Cop II and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His recording of Old Time Rock and Roll was named one of the Songs of the Century in 2001. Seger also co-wrote the Eagles' number-one hit Heartache Tonight. Starting his career with local bands Bob Seger and the Last Heard and the Bob Seger System during the 1960s, he achieved national recognition with his first album Ramblin Gamblin Man in 1969, which included his first hit of the same name. In 1973, he formed The Silver Bullet Band with Detroit-area musicians, leading to mainstream success with the live album Live Bullet in 1976, which was recorded at Cobo Hall. His 1976 studio album Night Moves marked a national breakthrough. Over his six-decade career, Seger has sold more than 75 million records worldwide. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2012. His farewell tour occurred in 2018 and 2019.
