Carrie Fisher

Carrie Fisher (October 21, 1956 – December 27, 2016) was an American actress and writer known for her role as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars films. She reprised this role in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker, the latter utilizing unreleased footage from an earlier film. Her filmography also includes appearances in Shampoo, The Blues Brothers, Hannah and Her Sisters, The 'Burbs, When Harry Met Sally, Soapdish, and The Women. Fisher earned two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for her guest performances in the NBC sitcom 30 Rock and the Channel 4 series Catastrophe. As an author, she wrote several semi-autobiographical novels including Postcards from the Edge and an autobiographical one-woman play. Her related nonfiction work, Wishful Drinking, was based on her play. She also wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation of Postcards from the Edge, earning a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, and her one-woman stage show was nominated for a Primetime Emmy. Fisher contributed as a script doctor to films such as Hook, Sister Act, and The Wedding Singer, as well as numerous entries in the Star Wars franchise. She was the daughter of singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds, and their relationship was documented in the film Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds. A public advocate, she spoke openly about her experiences with bipolar disorder and addiction. Fisher passed away at age 60 from a sudden cardiac arrest following a medical emergency during a transatlantic flight. Posthumously, she was recognized as a Disney Legend, received a Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album, and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
