Devin Garrett Townsend, born on May 5, 1972, is a Canadian singer, guitarist, songwriter, and record producer. He founded the extreme metal band Strapping Young Lad and served as its primary songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist from 1994 to 2007. Townsend has also developed an extensive solo career, releasing a total of 30 albums across various projects as of 2026. His early musical endeavors included performing in several heavy metal bands during high school. In 1993, he was discovered by a record label and was invited to perform lead vocals on Steve Vai's album Sex & Religion. Following touring with Vai, Townsend expressed dissatisfaction with aspects of the music industry, which influenced his debut solo album Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing in 1995, released under the pseudonym Strapping Young Lad. He later formed the band of the same name, releasing their critically acclaimed album City in 1997. Townsend continued to release material with Strapping Young Lad, alongside solo projects under his independent HevyDevy Records label. His solo work features a diverse lineup of supporting musicians and blends genres including hard rock, progressive metal, ambient, and new-age music. In 2002, he established the Devin Townsend Band, which recorded and toured for two of his solo albums. After disbanding both Strapping Young Lad and the Devin Townsend Band in 2007, he took a hiatus to prioritize his family. Upon returning to recording, he launched the Devin Townsend Project, releasing four albums from 2009 to 2011 in different genres. His innovative production style, characterized by a heavily multi-tracked sound, and his vocal range from screaming to operatic singing, have cemented his reputation in the progressive metal scene.

What is a talent profile?
A talent profile represents one person (founder, executive, or spokesperson) you are booking onto podcasts. It includes their bio, topics, headshots, and outreach history. Team plans include 5 profiles; agency plans are pay-as-you-go.
Can I switch plans later?
Yes, at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades apply at the end of the current billing period. Contact support if you need help migrating between plan families.
Do you offer a free trial?
Every paid plan includes a 15-day free trial. Your card is saved at signup but you will not be charged until day 16. Cancel any time from your dashboard.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep access until the end of your current billing period. No charges after that. Your data is retained for 30 days in case you reactivate.
