George Harrison

George Harrison was an English musician best known as the lead guitarist of the Beatles. Known as the quiet Beatle, he played a key role in shaping the band's musical direction and contributed several notable compositions from 1965 onward. His early musical influences included George Formby and Django Reinhardt; later, he was inspired by artists like Carl Perkins, Chet Atkins, and Chuck Berry. Harrison introduced Indian musical influences into the band's work, notably playing sitar on songs such as Norwegian Wood. He was involved in promoting Transcendental Meditation and developed an association with the Hare Krishna movement. After the Beatles disbanded, Harrison achieved solo success with the release of the album All Things Must Pass, which featured his hit single My Sweet Lord and showcased his signature slide guitar sound. He organized the 1971 Concert for Bangladesh, an early benefit concert, and worked extensively as a music and film producer, founding Dark Horse Records and co-founding HandMade Films. Harrison collaborated with numerous artists including Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, and Tom Petty. He was also a founding member of the supergroup the Traveling Wilburys. Recognized for his guitar playing, Harrison was ranked number 31 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of greatest guitarists of all time and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. He died in 2001 from cancer at the age of 58. His legacy includes both his musical achievements and his contributions to charitable causes.
