About Hugh
James Hugh Calum Laurie is an English actor, comedian, and musician born on 11 June 1959. He initially gained recognition as a member of the comedy double act Fry and Laurie with Stephen Fry, performing together during the 1980s and 1990s in projects such as the BBC sketch comedy series A Bit of Fry & Laurie and the adaptation Jeeves and Wooster. Laurie also appeared in three series of the period comedy Blackadder from 1986 to 1989. From 2004 to 2012, he starred as Dr. Gregory House on the Fox medical drama series House, earning two Golden Globe Awards and numerous other accolades. His portrayal made him the most-watched leading man on television in 2011 and one of the highest-paid actors in a television drama. Following House, Laurie received a Golden Globe for his role as arms dealer Richard Onslow Roper in the series The Night Manager, a role he continues to play since 2016. He also received a 10th Emmy Award nomination for his performance as Senator Tom James in the HBO sitcom Veep. Besides acting, Laurie is a musician who has released blues albums including Let Them Talk and Didn't It Rain, both well-received. Additionally, he authored the novel The Gun Seller in 1996. Laurie has been recognized with several honors for his contributions to drama, including appointments as Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2007 and Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2018.
