About Jason

Jason Furman is an American economist and professor at the Harvard Kennedy School. He has also served as a nonresident senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. On June 10, 2013, Furman was appointed by President Barack Obama as chair of the Council of Economic Advisers. Previously, he served as the deputy director of the U.S. National Economic Council and was an advisor for the Barack Obama 2008 presidential campaign. Since 2019, Furman has taught Economics 10, an introductory economics course at Harvard, alongside David Laibson. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Group of Thirty, and the Aspen Economic Strategy Group. Furman also holds positions as a Trustee of the Russell Sage Foundation and serves on advisory boards for the Brookings Papers on Economic Activity, the Bund Summit, the Hamilton Project, and the Washington Center for Equitable Growth. He has contributed articles to scholarly journals, periodicals, the Wall Street Journal, and Project Syndicate. Additionally, Furman has edited two books on economic policy.
