Jennette McCurdy, born on June 26, 1992, is an American writer and former actress known for her role as Sam Puckett in the Nickelodeon sitcom iCarly, which aired from 2007 to 2012. Her portrayal of the character earned her four Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. She reprised the role in the spin-off series Sam & Cat, which aired from 2013 to 2014 before she left Nickelodeon. McCurdy also appeared in several other television series, including Malcolm in the Middle, Zoey 101, Lincoln Heights, True Jackson, VP, and Victorious. In addition to her acting, she produced, wrote, and starred in her webseries What's Next for Sarah? in 2014, and led the science-fiction series Between during 2015 and 2016. She began her music career by independently releasing her debut single So Close in 2009, followed by her debut EP Not That Far Away in 2010, and later released a self-titled EP and studio album. Her single Generation Love reached number 44 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. In 2018, McCurdy shifted her focus from acting to writing and directing. She published a memoir titled I'm Glad My Mom Died in 2022, which became a bestseller and received critical acclaim for its candid portrayal of her experiences as a child star and the abusive behavior of her mother. She has since begun adapting her memoir into a television series and published her second book, a debut novel titled Half His Age, in 2026.
