Milica Bogdanovna Jovović, known professionally as Milla Jovovich, is an American actress and former model born on December 17, 1975. Born in Kyiv and raised in Los Angeles, she began her modeling career in 1987 after being photographed by Herb Ritts for the cover of the Italian magazine Lei. Her early work also included advertisements by Revlon. Jovovich made her screen debut in the television film The Night Train to Kathmandu in 1988, followed by her first feature film appearance in Two Moon Junction. She gained recognition for her role in the 1991 film Return to the Blue Lagoon. Her career saw a significant breakthrough with the 1997 French science-fiction action film The Fifth Element, directed by Luc Besson, who later married her. She starred as Joan of Arc in Besson's The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc in 1999. Jovovich is perhaps best known for her role as Alice in the Resident Evil film series, which she portrayed from 2002 to 2017; the franchise became the highest-grossing film series based on video games. Aside from acting, she released her debut album The Divine Comedy in 1994, followed by The People Tree Sessions in 1998, and has contributed to various film soundtracks. In addition to her entertainment career, Jovovich co-created the clothing line Jovovich–Hawk with model Carmen Hawk, which operated from 2003 until 2008.
