Sarah Palin

Sarah Louise Palin born February 11, 1964, is an American politician, commentator, and author. She served as the ninth governor of Alaska from 2006 until her resignation in 2009. Palin was elected to the Wasilla city council in 1992 and became mayor of Wasilla in 1996. In 2003, she was appointed chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, overseeing the state's oil and gas fields for safety and efficiency. In 2006, at age 42, she became the youngest person and the first woman to be elected governor of Alaska. Her tenure included legal battles over ethics investigations, which contributed to her decision to resign in 2009. Palin was the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, running alongside U.S. senator John McCain. She was the first Republican woman to be nominated for vice president and the second woman overall after Geraldine Ferraro. Although the McCain-Palin ticket lost the election, the campaign increased her national profile. Since her resignation, she has been involved in campaigning for the Tea Party movement and has publicly endorsed candidates, including Donald Trump in 2016. Palin has also pursued a career in television, providing political commentary for Fox News from 2010 to 2015, and hosting shows such as Sarah Palin's Alaska and Amazing America with Sarah Palin. She managed a short-lived online TV channel, the Sarah Palin Channel, from 2014 to 2015. Her memoir, Going Rogue, sold over one million copies. In 2022, Palin ran in special and general elections for Alaska's at-large congressional seat following the death of Representative Don Young, but was defeated by Democrat Mary Peltola.
