Woody Allen

Heywood Woody Allen (born Allan Stewart Konigsberg) is an American filmmaker, actor, writer, and comedian with a career spanning more than seven decades. He has contributed to film, television, and theater through his writing and directing. Allen holds the record for the most wins and nominations for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, with three wins and sixteen nominations. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards including four Academy Awards, ten BAFTA Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and a Grammy Award, as well as nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and a Tony Award. He has also been honored with special awards such as an Honorary Golden Lion in 1995, the BAFTA Fellowship in 1997, an Honorary Palme d'Or in 2002, and the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2014. Two of his films have been inducted into the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress. Allen began his career as a comedy writer for Sid Caesar specials and contributed humor pieces to The New Yorker. He wrote Broadway plays, including Don't Drink the Water and Play It Again Sam, before developing a stand-up comedy persona characterized as an insecure, intellectual, fretful nebbish. He published several humor books and albums, earning a Grammy nomination. Transitioning to film, Allen became a prominent director during the New Hollywood era, creating notable slapstick comedies such as Take the Money and Run and Bananas. His acclaimed film Annie Hall won four Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director. Allen has directed many films set in New York City, with works such as Manhattan, Hannah and Her Sisters, and Crimes and Misdemeanors. He maintains an active production schedule, creating films, series, and publishing memoirs and novels. His personal life has been widely publicized, particularly his relationship with Mia Farrow and subsequent controversy involving allegations made by Farrow, which Allen has denied.
