About Yasir
Yasir Qadhi is an American Muslim scholar and theologian born on January 30, 1975. He is the dean of The Islamic Seminary of America and serves as a resident scholar at the East Plano Islamic Center in Plano, Texas. Qadhi has previously held positions as the dean of AlMaghrib Institute and as a faculty member in the religious studies department at Rhodes College. He currently chairs the Fiqh Council of North America. Born in Texas to Pakistani parents, Qadhi grew up in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He studied chemical engineering at the University of Houston before pursuing Islamic studies at the Islamic University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia, focusing on Hadith and Islamic theology. He earned a PhD from Yale University, where his dissertation examined the writings of Ibn Taymiyyah. Qadhi has authored books and delivered lectures on Islam and modern Muslim issues. He is regarded as one of the most influential Muslim scholars in the United States and has been listed in the annual compilation of The 500 Most Influential Muslims. Initially affiliated with Salafism, he has since distanced himself from the movement and now identifies as a Wasatist.
