Episode #19
1/200 Campaign Season E19 - The Racist Rhetoric of Winston Peters
The Migrant Workers Association organised a protest against the rising tide of racist and anti immigrant rhetoric from political parties and leaders as the elections near. Winston Peters' racist tirade against Lawrence Xu-nan in parliament, alongside his party's anti immigrant rhetoric aimed at harnessing votes by dividing the working class and distracting from failures of their policies were key issues that motivated the protest. The protest featured satirical street theater, which evoked a triggered response from Winston Peters. Among other things, we discuss the contradictions within Winston Peters' politics and the history and intent of street theater within protest movements. We’re joined by Anu Kaloti and Joe Carolan.
