Each episode pulls apart the questions people actually ask—not the ones theologians wish people were asking. From tough topics like anxiety, AI, politics, prayer, sexuality, and suffering to practical questions about how to read the Bible, how to think Christianly in a digital world, and how to follow Jesus in a noisy culture, Brett and Matt aim to give listeners honest, pastoral, and intellectually serious answers. The show blends theology, humor, cultural analysis, and pastoral insight—inviting you into a conversation that is purposeful, biblical, and surprisingly entertaining. If you’ve ever wanted a podcast where you can actually get your questions answered, welcome to A Lot of Words.

What’s the Deal with Youth Group? Who’s Discipling Your Kids?
Aug 10, 20261h 7m
Our Sponsor: Get your free 60 day trial of Logos Bible Software: https://logos.sjv.io/alotofwords ======================================= Are youth groups producing mature Christian disciples—or have churches unintentionally isolated teenagers from the larger body of Christ? Pastor Brett Schoeneck and Pastor Matt Smith discuss youth ministry, Christian parenting, social media, smartphones, peer culture, wayward teenagers, and the role of the local church in raising the next generation. Matt challenges the idea that parents can simply outsource discipleship to a youth pastor or church program. Instead, he argues that teenagers need a faith that is lived out at home, relationships with Christians of different generations, meaningful opportunities to serve, and serious engagement with Scripture. They also discuss how parents should respond when teenagers question or reject Christianity, how families should approach technology and social media, and why young people need to be integrated into church life rather than continually separated into age-specific environments. Before getting to the main topic, Brett and Matt also tackle a listener question about the firmament and “waters above” in Genesis—and one particularly important theological mystery involving Adam, Eve, and pre-Fall bodily functions. No Holds Barred: Answering All Your Questions! - Part 3
Aug 3, 20261h 9m
It is time for another listener Q&A—and absolutely nothing is off the table. Brett and Pastor Matt Smith discuss privacy and trust within marriage, keeping a personal journal, interpreting Jeremiah 29:11 in context, and the meaning of 1 Corinthians 7:36–38. They also consider whether particular temptations can be inherited, how Christians should understand identity and personal responsibility, and why natural inclinations never excuse sinful choices. The conversation takes a more serious turn as they examine how Christians can speak truthfully and compassionately to unbelievers facing death, people suffering from chronic illness, and families grieving the loss of someone they love. They conclude with questions about hardened hearts, thoughtful disagreement, cosmetic surgery, body modification, and whether audiobooks officially slap. Failure hurts—but does it always mean something has gone wrong? In this episode, Brett and Pastor Matt Smith discuss why God allows Christians to fail and how setbacks can produce humility, perseverance, wisdom, and dependence on the Lord. They examine the fear of failure, the danger of living an entirely risk-averse life, and how Christians can develop the ability to learn from their mistakes rather than being defined by them. They also offer practical counsel for anyone who feels like a failure and explore the difference between worldly achievement and biblical success. Additional questions include whether there are different levels of punishment in hell, whether Dante’s Inferno is biblical, what happened to the children who died during the Passover, whether Christians can participate in games involving deception, and when Christians may use force in self-defense. Topics covered in this episode: 0:00 Introduction 15:32 Are There Different Levels of Punishment in Hell? 21:11 Is Dante’s Inferno Extra-Biblical? 25:01 Did the Babies Who Died During Passover Go to Heaven? 30:52 Can Christians Play Games That Require Deception? 37:47 Should Christians Portray Jesus in Movies? 44:09 When Is It Appropriate for Christians to Use Force in Self-Defense? 50:45 Is Refusing to Defend Your Home More Righteous? 53:56 Why Does God Allow Christians to Fail? 57:46 Is Failure Part of God’s Plan for My Life? 1:04:39 Is Fear of Failure a Lack of Trust in God? 1:09:05 How Do Christians Learn to Handle Failure? 1:13:12 What Should You Tell Someone Who Feels Like a Failure? 1:19:05 How Does God Define Success? 1:19:19 What Does Biblical Success Look Like at Work? 1:26:18 Does the Netherlands Slap? Agency tiers have no base fee. You pay per managed client and per talent profile. Agency Standard is $199 per client per month; Agency Pro is $399 per client per month. Both add $39 per talent profile per month. Your own team's user seats are always free.
What is a talent profile?
A talent profile represents one person (founder, executive, or spokesperson) you are booking onto podcasts. It includes their bio, topics, headshots, and outreach history. Team plans include 5 profiles; agency plans are pay-as-you-go.

Yes, at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades apply at the end of the current billing period. Contact support if you need help migrating between plan families.
Do you offer a free trial?
Every paid plan includes a 15-day free trial. Your card is saved at signup but you will not be charged until day 16. Cancel any time from your dashboard.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep access until the end of your current billing period. No charges after that. Your data is retained for 30 days in case you reactivate.
