Episode #20
What Makes a Good ADHD Coach
What Is ADHD Coaching, and How Can It Help? What exactly is ADHD coaching, and how is it different from advice, therapy, or simply telling someone what they should do? In this episode of ADHDtime on Air , I talk with ADHD coach and mentor coach Adela Baker about what good ADHD coaching actually looks like. We explore the importance of curiosity, active listening, and trusting clients to discover solutions that work for their own brains rather than offering one-size-fits-all advice. Adela also shares her concept of “Turbo Thinkers,” reflects on what social media is getting right and wrong about ADHD, and explains why training and credentials matter when choosing a coach. We also talk about How do you know when coaching has worked and it's time to end the coaching relationship? Our conversation ultimately comes back to self-understanding: becoming more aware of how your brain works, accepting what you need, finding the right supports and accommodations, and making choices that reflect your values and the life you actually want to live. In This Episode What ADHD coaching is and what it isn't What makes a good ADHD coach “Turbo Thinkers” and recognizing individual strengths Why ADHD coaching training and credentials matter What social media is getting right and wrong about ADHD How to know when coaching has worked and it's time to move on Key Takeaways Good coaching is collaborative. The coach isn't there to provide all the answers, but to help clients understand themselves, identify what works, and develop solutions that fit their lives. There is no universal ADHD strategy. What works beautifully for one person may not work for someone else. Successful coaching should build independence and confidence. Over time, clients can become more aware of how they work, what supports they need, and how to ask for those supports.
