Why Do Others Subconsciously Harass Us?
Hannah had been barren for many years, and this brought her great suffering, especially because Elkanah’s other wife, Peninnah, was harassing her. However, she did not turn away from God, but went to the tabernacle of the Lord at Shiloh and prayed with tears and humility. Hannah is an outstanding example of faith and trust in God in the Bible. Her story is told in the first chapter of 1 Samuel. Instead of despairing, she took refuge in God. She was willing to offer the most precious gift she had received from God again. After Eli the priest blessed her, she went away in peace.** The Bible says that her face was no longer as sad as before, even before she knew that her prayer would be answered. This was a sign of her faith that her prayer would be heard. So Hannah’s faith was not only in her request, but also in her peace before she saw God’s answer and in her faithfulness after receiving it. These two characteristics are a profound example of trust in God in the Bible. Where and who do you trust and turn to in times of hardship and persecution from others?
