50: Google Roars Back While AI Hits a Trillion Dollar Wall
Today's episode stares down the moment AI's honeymoon ends. Google dropped Gemini 4 Argon out of nowhere, topping GPT-6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5 on most major benchmarks, including a wild 77.9% on real-world software engineering. Catch is, you probably can't use it. Pricing starts at $10 per million tokens and climbs to $20, gated to vetted enterprise cybersecurity teams. Think concept car at the auto show, not a grocery-store ride. Meanwhile the balance sheets are smoking. Anthropic posted a $42 billion loss on $4.6 billion in revenue, with $518 billion in future compute commitments. OpenAI lost $34 billion last year. Bain sees a $6 trillion industry compute spend by 2030 with a $4.2 trillion revenue shortfall. Labs are hacking out of it with hyperdelegation, transformer tricks, CUDA translation for non-NVIDIA chips, and 500,000 human volunteers acting out physical tasks for training data. Add a White House Super Intelligence Accord that misspelled "United States," boardroom espionage measured in hours, and robots that can do 74% of physical jobs but are only cheap enough for 0.3%. Capability pulls us forward. The bill pulls us back.
