Episode #91
91. Simon Willis. End of series 2.
The world of Podcasts is changing, and Iβm not sure I want this podcast to be part of that new world. But donβt delete this just yet. BBC television now broadcasts the recording of its podcasts, such as the Uncloaked series that follows the Traitors TV show. Netflix has bought up some big names in Podcasting, because for them itβs relatively cheap. And there are just SO many podcasts out there, itβs hard to keep one going with the quality thatβs now expected. Particularly since almost every podcast is now on video. When I started podcasting, exactly 20 years ago this year with SeaKayakPodcasts.com, the video element would be unthinkable. YouTube was still small; now itβs the biggest player in Podcasting. Spotify is close behind. And almost every celebrity has their own podcast. They get the listeners. And as a consequence they get the advertisers. I donβt mind about either, none of my podcasts have ever taken advertising, and I know this is a niche listen. But itβs getting harder to commit the time to it and still run the YouTube channel. I have to pick, and Iβve picked the YouTube. Video has killed the radio star. I donβt watch podcasts, I listen to them. Thatβs how I feel they work best, on a long drive or while walking the dog. I canβt commit to something I donβt watch or believe in. If some of my future videos lend themselves to becoming audio podcasts I will release them as such, so please donβt delete this from your podcast player just yet. But donβt hold your breath for exciting new guests. Thanks for being a listener. Bye... for now.
