Barbara in Berlin | Choices vs. Circumstance, Catholic Guilt, Finding Yourself & NOT Becoming a DJ
This week, Barbara joins Amanda in Berlin for a conversation about growing up, finding yourself, and slowly becoming more confident in who you are. Barbara was one of the very first people Amanda met in Berlin — literally on the second day of her first visit to the city, when she decided she wanted to move there. Since then, their friendship has grown alongside both of them, through different phases, relationships, careers, and versions of themselves. In this episode, Amanda and Barbara talk about growing up in Catholic families, their similar experiences with those childhood dynamics that can follow you into adulthood through people pleasing. Barbara shares what led her to eventually land in Berlin and why she's chosen to stay. They also talk about finding confidence, figuring out who you actually are outside of other people’s expectations, starting creative projects even when it feels scary, and why doing things that intimidate you can sometimes introduce you to a completely new version of yourself. Plus: what Barbara wanted to be when she was younger, what she would tell her younger self now, Italian homes without carpets, Jesus, friendship and much more.
