Baddies After Dark
The Lindsay Clancy Case- I have thoughts….
In this episode of Baddies After Dark, I’m talking about the Lindsay Clancy case. Aside from it being a criminal case, it’s also a conversation about motherhood, mental health, and what happens when a mother is struggling and the people around her don’t fully understand what she’s experiencing. As I’ve followed the trial, there have been details and inconsistencies that have made me stop and question whether everything surrounding Lindsay’s mental health, treatment, and support system was as straightforward as it may have initially seemed. I share some of the things that have stood out to me while also recognizing that the trial is ongoing and there is still evidence left to hear. But this episode is bigger than one case. I talk about postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, and postpartum psychosis and why we need to take mothers seriously when they tell us they’re struggling. I also get personal about something motherhood genuinely scares me about: the enormous amount we expect from mothers while sometimes treating fathers like side characters in their own families. Fatherhood is parenting too y’all! The physical burden may not be equal, but the responsibility for creating a safe, supported home shouldn’t automatically fall on Mom. Most importantly, this conversation isn’t about excusing tragedy. It’s about asking uncomfortable questions about mental healthcare, family support, motherhood, and whether we’re doing enough before someone reaches a crisis. I also share resources for anyone experiencing perinatal or postpartum mental-health struggles, including Postpartum Support International (PSI), because conversations like this should lead somewhere helpful not just end when the episode does. https://postpartum.net 1-800-944-4773 Content warning: This episode discusses the deaths of children, suicide, postpartum mental illness, and other potentially distressing subjects.
