Episode #47
Deuteronomy 34, The Death of Moses
Moses ascends Mt. Nebo and Yahweh shows him the entire Promised Land — from Dan in the north to the Negev, from the Mediterranean to the Jordan Valley — though he cannot enter it because of his sin at Meribah-kadesh in failing to honor God as holy before the people. Moses dies at 120 years of age with his eyes undimmed and his strength undiminished, and God Himself buries him in an unknown grave in Moab so the tomb cannot become an object of veneration or idolatry. The book closes with Moses' literary epitaph — "no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face" — acknowledging that while Joshua leads the nation forward, Moses remains the supreme covenant mediator of his era, whose full surpassing awaits the greater Prophet still to come.
