Episode #6
Sometimes You have to Encourage Yourself
In this powerful episode, Frank King addresses the importance of self-encouragement. We all need to be encouraged at times. Every week millions attend the house of God regularly to be encouraged through the good news of the gospel. But there will be times in your life when you must be able to encourage yourself. A time occurred in King David’s life when he had to encourage himself. When he and his army returned home, they found their city destroyed and their wives and children taken captive. “David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep” (1 Samuel 30:4, KJV). On top of that, David’s army wanted to stone him to death (verse 6a). He could have given up and wallowed in self-pity. But “David encouraged himself in the Lord his God” (verse 6b). The key to David’s success was his personal relationship with the Lord. He was the one God had sent Samuel the prophet to anoint with oil as king. After that divine experience, “The Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward” (1 Samuel 16:13, KJV). The point is that before you can encourage yourself in the Lord, you must first have a personal relationship with the Lord.
