Ep. 101 - Flock Cameras, and The Blind Frog Ranch
This week, we’re diving into two rabbit holes. First, we take a hard look at Flock cameras and the rapidly expanding network of automated license plate readers across the country. What exactly are these cameras collecting? Who has access to that information? How long can it be stored? And what happens when a system originally presented as a tool for solving crimes becomes part of a much larger surveillance infrastructure? We break down some of our biggest concerns surrounding Flock, mass location tracking, privacy, law-enforcement access, database sharing, oversight, and the potential for these systems to be abused. But Flock is only part of the story. We also dig into other surveillance technologies and networks operating throughout the country that receive far less public attention. Then we head back to one of the strangest areas in America: Utah’s Uintah Basin. This begins the first of two episodes exploring ranches connected geographically, and sometimes allegedly phenomenologically, to the bizarre world surrounding Skinwalker Ranch. Our first stop is Blind Frog Ranch. Located only a short distance from Skinwalker Ranch, Blind Frog Ranch has developed a strange history of its own. We dig into the ranch, the people investigating it, the unusual discoveries that have reportedly been made there, and some of the bizarre activity surrounding the property. Underground caverns, mysterious materials, strange readings, unexplained phenomena, and the possibility that whatever has made the Uintah Basin famous may extend far beyond the boundaries of Skinwalker Ranch itself.
