Serving the Industry from the Inside with John Crowe, 2026 ABoR President
This podcast features our guest John Crowe, 2026 Austin Board of REALTORS president and Bramlett Partners agent, whose approach to leadership traces back to a principle his father lived by: it is not fair to complain if you are not willing to help find a solution. His father was a pediatric surgeon who treated a significant share of his patients for free. That ethic runs through everything John does in real estate and at the association level. John began his career in marketing and communications at IBM, turned down three offers to relocate to New York, and left in 2005 to flip homes with his brother. He got his real estate license at the end of 2007 and started selling through the recession. His brokerage path has consistently leaned toward independents because he has always believed that fewer layers between an agent and a client produce better service. John joined the ABoR grievance committee in 2010, ran for the board in 2017 through a petition process, and has spent years doing work that most members will never see or credit. The conversation covers what the ABoR presidency actually involves, why so much of the board work is anonymous, and how he thinks about leadership as a service function rather than a title. The episode also addresses the operational differences between big box and independent brokerages, the role of technology in improving the client experience, and why John believes real estate is fundamentally relational. Tools and reach can be replicated. Service cannot. Whether you are a new agent deciding where to hang your license or a seasoned professional thinking about how to contribute to the industry, this is a conversation about what it means to show up for the work even when no one is watching.
