S8E5 - Just Start: How Small Steps Lead to a Life of Impact with Carol Walker
What can happen when you stop worrying about whether you’re ready—and simply start? In this episode of the Business Impact Lab, Angela Jackson and LynnAnn Erickson sit down with Carol Walker, whose remarkable career has taken her from community volunteer work to leadership roles in state government, national advocacy, marketing, public relations, fundraising, and corporate sponsorships. Carol shares how saying yes, building genuine relationships, and serving causes she believes in opened doors she never could have predicted. She also reflects on her work advocating for women and families, the importance of confidence and communication, and why meaningful change often begins with “baby steps.” Her advice is refreshingly simple: Don’t be afraid to try—and don’t be afraid of hearing no. Sometimes no becomes maybe, and maybe becomes yes. Listen in for an inspiring conversation about confidence, connection, service, and what can happen when you simply decide to start. Carol Walker's Bio: Carol, whose career has spanned public service, nonprofit leadership, marketing, public relations, fundraising, and community engagement. Carol served as Executive Director of Utah’s Commission for Women and Families under three governors—Mike Leavitt, Olene Walker, and Jon Huntsman Jr.—and also served as Vice President of the National Commission on Women. Throughout her career, she has worked extensively with nonprofit organizations, led development and fundraising efforts, and organized events ranging from intimate gatherings to large-scale initiatives. At the heart of all of this work is something Carol genuinely loves: people. She has built a career around connecting with others, developing relationships, and bringing people together—skills she sees as essential not only in marketing and public relations, but in leadership more broadly. caroljohnwalker@gmail.com https://www.bridleuphope.org/ _______________________ UPCOMING DEN EVENT: On Wednesday, October 21st, we’ll be joined by Patrick Dickerson for a conversation called “Leadership, Pressure & 2 Gallons of Milk: What One Messy Moment Revealed About Leadership Poise.” Patrick will explore what happens to our leadership when things don’t go according to plan—and what an everyday, messy moment can teach us about staying grounded and leading with poise under pressure.
