No Password Required: The Co-Founder, CEO and CISO of BEMO, Who Blocks Employees From Weekend Work
Bruno Lecoq is the co-founder, CEO, and CISO of BEMO, a Microsoft-focused cybersecurity and compliance firm serving small and midsize U.S. businesses. Before co-founding BEMO in 2010, Bruno spent nearly 20 years at Microsoft, working on MS-DOS, Windows NT, Exchange, and Xbox. Born in a French village of 1,200 people, he moved to Seattle at 22 with a $10,000 loan and a dream inspired by a late-night television show featuring Bill Gates. Today, BEMO manages security for more than 470 companies and is among approximately 50 U.S. managed security service providers that has achieved CMMC Level 2 certification. In this episode, Bruno traces his path from France to Microsoft and eventually to BEMO’s 2018 pivot into cybersecurity. He explains why CMMC compliance is like having a child, why small and midsize companies underestimate cyberattacks, and why AI agents need strong governance. He also shares why he blocks employees from working on weekends. Jack Clabby and co-host Kayley Jerrell talk with Bruno about the day Bill Gates canceled a product he had spent a year building, watching Microsoft enter BEMO’s market in 2012, and what Bruno learned from working alongside his son, Brandon, for eight years before Brandon started his own company. In the lifestyle polygraph segment, Bruno reveals his favorite French pastry, recalls watching France defeat Brazil with his Brazilian fiancée at the 1998 World Cup, and tells the story of the family intervention that ended his flying lessons.
