The Evansdale Murders
On July 13th, 2012, 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey and her 8-year-old cousin, Elizabeth Collins, left their grandmother’s home in Evansdale, Iowa for an afternoon bike ride. When the girls didn’t return, their family began searching, and just a few hours later, their bicycles and Elizabeth’s purse were discovered near Meyers Lake — but Lyric and Elizabeth were nowhere to be found. What began as a desperate search for two missing girls would become one of Iowa’s most haunting unsolved cases, leaving behind questions investigators are still trying to answer more than a decade later... After walking through a missing persons case within my own family, that mission became even more personal. We are now developing the Linda Brown Advocacy Protocol, a trauma-informed initiative designed to help families navigate the early stages of a missing persons case with clarity and support.
