Backyard Truth-Telling Series – Walyalup: Jacqueline Pelczar
Jaqueline Pelczar is a Polish, Austrian and Burgher Sri Lankan woman who reflects on her family history and her grandmother’s immigration story. She explores the intergenerational impacts of the White Australia Policy, white privilege and Sri Lanka’s history of colonisation. ABOUT THE COLLECTION: Backyard Truth-Telling Series – Walyalup is a collection of stories from Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians that were shared in the backyards of heritage buildings all around Walyalup/Fremantle. First Stories is a Centre for Stories project amplifying First Nations truth and voices across Western Australia, while creating spaces for truth-telling and truth-listening within and between First Nations and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities. In this collection, you will hear live recordings from people who spoke about difficult truths, hidden histories and reimagined futures, all reflections of their lived experiences of colonisation in Walyalup and beyond.We invite you to listen deeply and respectfully, honouring the truths and stories that others have so generously decided to share with us.
