Aug 21, 202640 minS1
The sports card market keeps climbing, but does the value of today's cards actually make sense? Ryan Alford, Brian Ludden, and Bella Shafer break down another big week in the hobby, from record-setting sales and the strength of high-end cards to the growing debate over modern cards versus cards that have already survived multiple market cycles. Ryan also shares a recent product comparison that revealed nearly a 30X difference in card value, despite pulling numbered cards and an autograph from the competing product. The crew also discusses Justin Herbert and football players they're watching, the return of Topps flagship football, Cooper Flagg, buying collections, the explosion of parallels, Collector Station's first eBay Live streams, and new Ludex features. The Hobby Has Outgrown Its Name | An Audio Essay from The National 2026
Aug 12, 202624 min
The National was the biggest show the hobby has ever put on. The most important thing I saw there wasn't a card. This is not our usual episode — no guest, no Friday news rundown. It's a 23-minute audio essay about something I couldn't stop turning over on the flight home: I walked past a dozen different versions of this hobby in a single afternoon, and most of them barely acknowledged each other. Somewhere in the last five years, without any announcement, the thing we all still call "the hobby" stopped being one thing. Nobody stopped to rename it. In this episode: • Why the collector-versus-investor argument is over — and what replaced it • The two floors of The National, and why they barely speak to each other • Trade night, and the difference between paper gains and profit • How Michael Jordan became the hobby's language of certainty • The quiet shift from accumulating to editing a collection • Why the next decade belongs to whoever helps collectors make sense of it Read the written version: https://thecollectornation.com/news/the-national-didnt-change-we-did Collector Nation is built on one idea: the hobby doesn't need more recaps, it needs interpretation. Anyone can tell you what sold and for how much. What matters is whether it means anything, and what you should do about it. What is the difference between Founder Solo and Founder Pro?
Founder Solo gives you 50 AI pitches per month using the credit model (Standard pitches cost 1 credit, Enriched pitches cost 2). Founder Pro raises that to 200 credits per month and adds full Booking Probability access, unlimited Magic Match, Apollo enrichment credits, and data export capabilities. Both plans use the same credit system, so you can stretch your monthly budget further by using Standard-mode drafting.
How do agency tiers work?
Agency tiers have no base fee. You pay per managed client and per talent profile. Agency Standard is $199 per client per month; Agency Pro is $399 per client per month. Both add $39 per talent profile per month. Your own team's user seats are always free.
What is a talent profile?
A talent profile represents one person (founder, executive, or spokesperson) you are booking onto podcasts. It includes their bio, topics, headshots, and outreach history. Team plans include 5 profiles; agency plans are pay-as-you-go.
Can I switch plans later?
Yes, at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades apply at the end of the current billing period. Contact support if you need help migrating between plan families.
Do you offer a free trial?
Every paid plan includes a 15-day free trial. Your card is saved at signup but you will not be charged until day 16. Cancel any time from your dashboard.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep access until the end of your current billing period. No charges after that. Your data is retained for 30 days in case you reactivate.
Is the 20% annual discount automatic?
Yes. Select Annual on the pricing toggle and the discounted price is applied automatically at checkout. The annual price shown is the full year cost.
What if I have more than 50 profiles or 20 clients?
That is our Enterprise tier. Contact our sales team and we will build a custom plan with volume pricing, a dedicated account manager, and SLA guarantees.
