#088: Guillermo Rios Paints the Memories That Made Him
Aug 17, 202654 min
What changes when you stop asking whether your work belongs—and begin listening for what it is asking to become? Guillermo Rios creates one-of-a-kind wearable art from denim, paint, memory, and intuition. But beneath the striking black-and-white jackets is a deeper story: growing up between Mexico and the United States, honoring the people and places that formed him, and finding the courage to let his own voice lead. In this conversation, Guillermo shares the moment a simple painted jacket made him realize, “I am the designer.” He reflects on the vulnerability of making art that doesn’t fit neatly into other people’s categories, the meaning held in black-and-white memory, and why every garment has to tell him what it needs. This is a tender conversation about trusting yourself, carrying your roots with you, and becoming secure enough to make work that feels unmistakably like your own. Guillermo reminds us that creativity is not always about inventing something new—it can also be a way of remembering, belonging, and giving your story a place to live. #087: Are You Too Much... Or Just Finally Yourself?
Aug 10, 202619 min
What if the most vulnerable thing you do as a creative is let people hear you while you’re still figuring yourself out? In this solo episode, Dwight opens the door to his own lab—sharing what it feels like to practice in public, listen back to every word, and notice every awkward pause pattern that makes him cringe. Instead of teaching from a safe distance, he names the tender edges of visibility: the wish to show up in a monotone, the fear of being “too much,” and the old scripts that told us to be professional by checking our personality at the door. Along the way, he invites you to see your inner critic not as an enemy, but as a part of you that once tried to keep you safe—and that you’re now allowed to outgrow. This conversation is for any creative human who feels messy, in-progress, and unsure if their voice deserves the mic. Dwight offers companionship in that discomfort, reminding you that every time you show up—on stage, on canvas, on the page—it’s just practice, and being a work in progress is not a flaw; it’s the proof that you’re still alive and becoming. #086: Why Your Team Keeps Nodding and Nothing Changes
Aug 3, 202623 min
You've sat in that meeting. The slides are polished, everyone nods on cue, and by Monday it's like the offsite never happened — a kind of collective amnesia settles back in. In this solo episode, Dwight steps out from behind the usual guest chair to name something he's carried through years of designing gatherings for leaders and creatives alike: leadership, he believes, is its own creative journey — with the same doubt, the same awakening, the same hunger to be seen as real instead of just useful. He talks about what actually breaks the spell: real check-ins instead of small talk, naming the tensions everyone's been quietly carrying, and commitments made in front of people who'll actually ask about them later. Not techniques. Permission. Because underneath every job title is a person circling their own tender spots, wondering if it's safe to be honest here. Dwight's answer is simple and a little disarming — it usually is, if someone goes first. This one isn't about running better meetings. It's about what becomes possible when a room finally stops performing. This is Maddox & Dwight! More than anything, we want to connect and communicate with you. #085: Am I a Real Creative, or Am I Just Pretending?
Jul 27, 202627 min
Have you ever wondered if you're a real creative, or if you're just pretending? Dwight has asked himself that more than once — and in this solo conversation, he walks through the map he wishes someone had handed him years ago, tracing a path from doubt all the way to belonging. He traces it back to the hardest season of his life, when he sat with someone who'd been a constant presence for twenty years and watched them leave this world. Nothing prepared him for that. In the unraveling that followed, old curiosities he'd buried since childhood — writing, dramatic reading, building arguments — started calling him back. What emerged is a map of four phases every heart-centered creative moves through: doubting, awakening, emerging, and becoming authentic. Dwight doesn't offer it as a ladder you climb once and for all. He offers it as terrain you'll revisit, sometimes in the same week, depending on what life hands you. By the end, he leaves you with something simpler than a lesson: you're not broken, you're just in a phase, and you're exactly where you need to be. This is Maddox & Dwight! #084: Creating When You’re Afraid of Being Judged (And Why No One’s Really Keeping Score)
Jul 20, 202622 min
What if the scariest part of your creative life isn’t the making, but the moment you finally let yourself be seen? In this solo episode of Community and Becoming from For the Love of Creatives, Dwight sits with that familiar, stomach‑dropping fear of judgment that shows up every time we hit “publish,” hang something on a wall, or share a piece of ourselves with people who might not understand. He names the tug of war so many of us live in: wanting our work to matter and be visible, while quietly dreading the spotlight in case it lands on our mess instead of our magic. From an unforgettable BMW short film with Madonna to trolls in the comments and the illusion that everyone is scrutinizing us, Dwight gently reminds us that most people simply aren’t thinking about us as much as we think they are. Instead of treating every reaction as a verdict on our worth, he invites us to see it as feedback on the work—and to practice in public, with imperfect experiments, invisible posts, and a soft heart toward ourselves along the way. This conversation is a warm nudge toward expanding your comfort zone by one small act of courage at a time, so you can be both human and visible without abandoning yourself. This is Maddox & Dwight! What is a talent profile?
A talent profile represents one person (founder, executive, or spokesperson) you are booking onto podcasts. It includes their bio, topics, headshots, and outreach history. Team plans include 5 profiles; agency plans are pay-as-you-go.
