Following Jesus Together - Part 2

  Sep 27, 202646 min

Last week, Pastor Will described a key aspect of the Compass community - our desire to keep the unity and build community with those who have different perspectives than us on doctrine. This week, in another virtual sermon, Will walks us through a case study on the perspectives that Compass's leaders hold on Jesus and the holy spirit. The God of the Bible is the Father. God's unique Son is Jesus, our Lord, Messiah, and King. And the holy spirit is the power of God (and later, after the ascension, Jesus) at work in the world.

  Following Jesus Together

Here at Compass, we believe strongly in making room for different perspectives and different voices. And we believe that is part of how we are living out our motto: Following Jesus Together. Join Pastor Will in this virtual sermon as he explains how we can have unity without doctrinal agreement. The solution is found in scripture: we must work to maintain the unity and stay humble, gentle, and patient.

Chasing the Wind: Ecclesiastes and the Search for What Lasts (The God of Wisdom and Knowledge)

  Sep 9, 202631 min

Wisdom and knowledge are always great, right? Wrong, says the Preacher in Ecclesiastes. Often, wisdom is good. Often, wisdom is helpful. But sometimes, wisdom and knowledge only increase vexation. In this sermon, Jason Carter walks through what Ecclesiastes says about wisdom and knowledge, showing that they are wonderful tools to use but terrible things to idolize.

Chasing the Wind: Ecclesiastes and the Search for What Lasts (The God of Money)

  Aug 29, 202632 min

Most of our lives, in one way or another, revolves around money. We need money to live, to eat, and to provide for our families. Much of our time is oriented around the pursuit of those needs. And money is a fine tool, according to the Preacher in Ecclesiastes, but it is a terrible god. In this sermon, John Ely exposes the god of money for the fraud it is. It promises control, pleasure, and power, but in the end, it doesn't satisfy.
