When You Feel Stuck and Forgotten | Trusting God in the Test (Genesis 40)
What do you do when you feel stuck? You’ve prayed. You’ve tried to do the right thing. You’ve trusted God. But nothing seems to be changing. In Genesis 40, Joseph finds himself in exactly that kind of season. He’s been betrayed, falsely accused, and thrown into prison for something he didn’t do. Then, just when it looks like there might finally be a way out, the man who could help him simply forgets about him. Joseph was stuck. But God had not forgotten him. Testing times will either lead to breakdowns or breakthroughs. The question is, how do we keep going when we reach our quitting point? Joseph’s story gives us three powerful prayers for seasons of testing: “LORD, GUARD MY HEART.” Testing can easily turn into bitterness, anger, resentment, or discouragement. Joseph had every reason to become bitter, but he continued to trust God and care about the people around him. When life gets hard, ask God to keep your heart soft. “LORD, SHOW ME WHERE YOU ARE AT WORK.” Joseph couldn’t see the whole plan, but God was already working behind the scenes. Even in prison, Joseph noticed what God was doing around him. The very people God brought into that prison would eventually become part of the plan to move Joseph forward. You may not understand your current season, but that doesn’t mean God isn’t working in it. “LORD, THANK YOU THAT YOU WILL NEVER FORGET ME.” The cupbearer forgot Joseph. God didn’t. Maybe you feel stuck in a relationship, a job, a financial situation, a health struggle, or a season that just won’t seem to end. You may feel forgotten, but you are not forgotten. God sees where you are. He knows what you’re facing. And even when you can’t see what He is doing, you can trust that He is still at work. Don’t quit in the testing time. Your breakthrough may be on the other side of your quitting point.
