Reading the Book of Esther Carnally vs Spiritually Ep 35
In this episode, we continue our journey through the King James Bible by exploring the Book of Esther through two very different lenses: the traditional interpretation found in Judaism and modern Christianity, and the symbolic, spiritual framework taught in New Jerusalem by Tyler Doka. The Book of Esther tells the story of a Jewish woman who becomes queen of Persia and risks her life to save her people from destruction. Traditionally, the story is understood as a powerful account of courage, providence, identity, justice, and deliverance. In Judaism, Esther is known as the Megillah, one of the Five Scrolls in the Ketuvim, and it is central to the celebration of Purim. In Christianity, the book is often seen as an example of God working behind the scenes, even though His name is never explicitly mentioned. But what if the Book of Esther was describing an inner spiritual struggle? What if Esther represents hidden truth coming into the open? What if Mordecai symbolizes discernment and faithfulness, while Haman represents pride, ego, deception, or the carnal mind? What if the reversal of Haman’s plot reveals a deeper principle in which falsehood ultimately destroys itself? And what if the hiddenness of God in Esther points to a spiritual reality that is present even when it cannot be seen outwardly? Throughout this discussion, we compare how Judaism, Christianity, and Tyler Doka’s broader teachings approach the major people, events, and themes in Esther. We also explore thematic parallels with Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Sikhism, including courage, righteous action, resisting oppression, humility, ego, justice, providence, and the consequences of harmful intentions. Together, we examine Vashti’s removal, Esther’s rise to queenship, Mordecai’s loyalty, Haman’s plot, Esther’s courageous decision to approach the king, the dramatic reversal of Haman’s plan, the deliverance of the Jewish people, and the establishment of Purim. Whether you read Esther as history or symbolically, this episode invites you to consider a deeper question: Is Esther only the story of a queen who saved her people, or does it also reveal what happens within us when truth must overcome fear, pride, and deception?
