Episode #3
3 - La Pen.
Episode 3 — La Pen In Episode 3 of Motel De Cobul, the doors are locked, the fences are high, and our narrator finds himself looking back on life inside “the pen” — a place somewhere between secure accommodation, institutional routine and a world of its own. With dark humour, paranoia and a sharply unconventional perspective, this episode explores living with MS and a degenerative disease, autism, medication, obsessive routines and the aftermath of a mental breakdown. From the strange comfort of familiar rituals to the small victories that make institutional life bearable, nothing is quite as straightforward as it first appears. Enter Professor Rose, whose unconventional approach to therapy introduces mindfulness, creativity and “Mind Snaps” into a world dominated by rules and routine. An unlikely friendship develops, while Nurse Ratchet and the narrator continue their battle of wills. There are silk ties, medication, short-pronged forks, raw potatoes, aardvarks, wardens, old rivalries — and plenty of opportunities to score another small victory. La Pen is a darkly comic and sometimes unsettling journey through memory, mental health, neurodivergence and the strange coping mechanisms we develop when life doesn't quite go according to plan. Motel De Cobul — where memories check in, but secrets never leave.
