Episode #12
Zack Mykula | PUP
**If you only have 3 minutes, skip to around 8:13 to hear our biggest banger to date - double drums with Zack to the full track of Reservoir.** Zack Mykula co-founded PUP with his high-school friends in Toronto in 2010 and has been behind the kit for every record since — from the breakout The Dream Is Over to 2025's Who Will Look After the Dogs? He plays with a kind of controlled chaos that makes a punk song sound like it's about to come apart, and never quite does.Zack and Adam get into why playing along to your own record feels like molasses next to a live tempo, how PUP starts a song with no count-in at all, and the ADHD-shaped writing process behind rhythmic motifs that evolve across a song. Also: what happens when you meet your heroes and they turn out to be lovely, holding a band together since high school on what Zack calls unconditional understanding, and the night in Vienna he played a ninety-minute set with food poisoning. Also big shout-out to our new partnership with @sennheiser thanks for supporting the show!
