8 Ways to Build Self-Worth Through Everyday Conversations
Welcome back to Embrace Your Awesome. I'm your host, John Geyston. And today, I want to talk directly to parents, grandparents, coaches, teachers—and really anyone who has the privilege of influencing a child. After more than four decades of working with children and families, there's something I've come to believe very strongly: Every child needs a place where they know their voice matters. And hopefully, the safest place for that voice is home. As parents, we spend a lot of time trying to prepare our children for life. We teach them right from wrong. We help them with school. We encourage them in sports and activities. We teach responsibility, discipline, and respect. Those things matter. But sometimes, in our desire to teach our children, we forget something just as important: We need to hear them. Because self-worth isn't built only by telling a child, "You're amazing." It's also built when our actions communicate: "I see you." "I hear you." "Your feelings matter." "Your ideas matter." "You don't have to become somebody else to be worthy of my love." So today I want to share eight simple ways we can create more of those moments with our children. And none of these require us to be perfect parents. They're simply opportunities to become more intentional parents.
