Episode #3
Colossians | Gracious Community | Pastor Eleah Tercero
In Colossians 3, Paul shows us that a healthy church is not a perfect community, but a gracious community. Because God has first chosen, loved, forgiven, and shown grace to us, we are called to extend that same grace to others. Paul encourages believers to “clothe” themselves with mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and above all, love. Grace does not mean ignoring sin or avoiding accountability; rather, it means responding to brokenness through the lens of Jesus. A gracious community makes room for people to be human—to admit when they are struggling, ask for help, make mistakes, and continue growing without fear of rejection. Ultimately, the grace we receive from Jesus is meant to flow through us into our relationships and communities. We are called to choose love over being right, forgiveness over bitterness, humility over pride, and welcoming others rather than expecting them to have everything together. A gracious community is built through small, everyday choices: noticing someone who is lonely, asking how someone is really doing, apologizing, forgiving, refusing to gossip, welcoming newcomers, and making space for people who are different from us. We don't become a gracious community accidentally; we build it one interaction at a time. The challenge is simple: Have you received God's grace, and who is God calling you to show grace to today? Read: Colossians 3 Small Group Discussion Questions Why do you think receiving grace is often easier than giving grace? What does it look like to balance grace with accountability in our relationships? Can you share about a time when someone showed you grace and how it impacted you? What makes it difficult for people to be honest about their struggles within a community, and how can we create a safer space for people to be human? Who is one person God may be calling you to show grace to this week, and what could that look like practically?
