Episode 62: Living a Life Defined by Grace
Join us as we explore what it means to live a life defined by the grace and mercy we have received from God. The progression in Matthew 18 lends significant meaning to the text. We see Jesus address the hearts of His disciples after they argue over worldly issues. He, then, expresses to them the seriousness of sin through dramatic and shocking imagery. Next, Jesus shares a parable that reveals the heart of the difficult teaching He delivers immediately afterwards. The Parable of the Wandering Sheep is about a good shepherd who goes out to bring his wandering sheep back to the flock. In the same way, Jesus asks us to look after our brothers and sisters in Christ and bring them back to the flock when they have wandered astray. He lays out specific parameters for how we are to bring our brothers and sisters back to the fold. While these instructions can be intimidating to read and even more difficult to live out, we must proceed by walking ever closer to God, moving forward prayerfully and with discernment. Jesus, then, teaches us about forgiveness. God has forgiven all of those who are in Christ the unimaginable, unpayable sin debt that we all carry. If we have been forgiven this tremendous sum, how can we not go forward living lives defined by the grace and mercy we have received through Jesus? Let us have countless forgiveness for those who wrong us. Let us live lives defined by Grace.
