Five Half Truths - #2: All Religions are the Same - August 16 2026
Have you ever heard someone say, “It doesn’t matter what you believe, as long as you are sincere”? Or perhaps, “All religions are really just different paths to the same God”? In our increasingly diverse society, statements like these are common. They sound tolerant, respectful, and even compassionate. After all, shouldn’t we respect people who have different beliefs from our own? Absolutely. Christians are called to treat every person with dignity, kindness, and love. But there is a difference between respecting someone’s beliefs and declaring that every belief is equally true. This half-truth is dangerous precisely because it contains some truth. It takes something we should affirm and quietly adds something we must reject. Yes, different religions may share certain moral teachings. But similarity does not mean equality, and sincerity does not make a belief true. More importantly, Jesus did not present Himself as simply one religious option among many. He made an extraordinary claim in John 14:6: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” In this sermon, we will examine why the statement “all religions are the same” is a half-truth, and why the biblical truth about Jesus changes everything.
