When Help Feels Harder Than Carrying It
For a high-capacity Black woman who has spent years being the one who figures it out, handles it, anticipates it, and keeps things moving, doing everything herself can become more than a habit. It can become part of how she recognizes herself. So when someone offers to help, the discomfort may not be, “I don't want help.” It may be, “What does accepting this mean about me?” That distinction matters. You don't have to force yourself to become comfortable with receiving overnight. Start by getting curious about the meaning you've attached to needing someone else. What does receiving support make you believe about yourself? Sit with that. #ESSENTFLOW #HighCapacityBlackWomen #IdentityResearch #IdentityAndLanguage #Capacity #SelfAwareness #BlackWomenAndWellness
