Episode 313: Tackle Soybean Cyst Nematode with Nemasphere
Soybean Cyst Nematode, or SCN, is a billion dollar problem for U.S. soybean farmers, and that’s not an exaggeration. Estimates suggest that farmers lose between $1 and $1.5 billion a year to this pest, due both growing, and the way that SCN tends to make other problems, from diseases and pests to stress, worse. More and more farmers are facing down the cost of SCN today, and the need for a new management strategy is mounting. Today, we’re joined by BASF Trait Technology Lead Michael MacCarville and BASF Trait Technology Specialist Justin Mortz for a conversation about what farmers face when dealing with the impacts of SCN in soybean fields, what tools are currently available to manage the issue, and what BASF is bringing to market to help farmers stay a step ahead of this gnarly pest. We’ll learn about the forthcoming Nemasphere, a tool that will help farmers reduce SCN-related yield losses while providing additional benefits. Finally, we’ll look to the future, and hear how this problem, and the tools used to address it, are likely to evolve going forward.
