Episode #52
Acrylic Paint — What Works, What Changes & What Lasts
We’re continuing the Furniture Artist’s Resource Guide with another paint family: acrylic paint. But as you’ll discover in this episode, seeing the word acrylic on a container doesn’t tell you nearly enough about what’s inside—or whether that particular product belongs on your furniture. We’ll talk about everything from those little bottles of craft acrylic you might use for stenciling to furniture-grade acrylic coatings, including my longtime experience with CrystaLac and their Flip’N Awesome acrylic/polyurethane blend. We’ll also dig into prep, tannin blockers, dry time versus recoat time versus full cure, and why knowing your products matters so much when you’re redesigning furniture. But this episode goes beyond paint. I recently woke up discouraged about my own business, even though I know I’m in the middle of rebuilding and expanding my reach. It reminded me of something my brother told me years ago: “The ones that keep showing up are the ones who succeed in business.” Sometimes the next step isn’t having all the answers. Sometimes it’s learning, adjusting, finding your people—and showing up again tomorrow. There are different kinds of support for different seasons. If you want to connect with other people who love furniture flipping, ask questions, share what you’re learning and build relationships that actually mean something, come find my new Flipping Furniture For Profit Facebook group. If you’re ready for deeper help—the Blueprint, step-by-step training, business guidance, community and access to me when you need help—that’s what Furniture Flipping Blueprint is for. And wherever you are in your furniture journey, keep learning your products. Don’t choose a paint just because someone told you it’s “the best.” Understand what it was designed to do and choose the right product for the piece in front of you.
