A Life That Commends the Gospel | Titus 2:9-10
What happens when our conduct contradicts the gospel we profess? In Titus 2:9-10, Paul shows that ordinary faithfulness can adorn the teaching concerning God our Savior. Submission, speech, honesty, and trustworthiness matter because Christian conduct should fit the gospel Christians proclaim. Paul originally addresses enslaved believers within a severe and broken institution, not modern employees. Yet the passage still brings our ordinary responsibilities beneath Christ's lordship. Its hope rests beyond improved behavior. Christ gave Himself to redeem sinners and make a people His own. The grace that saves us from our sin also trains us toward increasing faithfulness. We do not become Christ's by becoming faithful. We increasingly become faithful because Christ has made us His.
