#189: Let's Talk about Caregivers and Grief
On today's podcast episode, Dr. Cheryl Hardy is talking about being a caretaker. Being a caregiver is one of the hardest jobs in the world. It is so important that we make time for the aging process. Mothers and fathers sometimes age faster than we expect. Suffering in silence is common among caregivers; many believe they are simply doing their duty, not realizing they need help. Most of all, it is critical not to weaponize scripture to make others feel they are not walking with God, or to suggest that their exhaustion is merely their "reasonable service." Caregivers need support, and people often fail to realize the toll this role takes on the caregiver's own aging process. To the person receiving care: please be nice. Be kind. Sharing the story of an illness can be weighty for the listener, so please extend grace to those who serve you. This situation is difficult for everyone involved, but we must strive to make each day as easy as possible. Core Values for the Caregiving Relationship: * Be nice. * Be kind. * Use self-control.
