Jacob: The Man Who Wrestled With God | People of the Bible
Jacob spent much of his life grasping for blessing. He purchased Esau’s birthright, deceived his father, fled from home, endured twenty years under Laban, and prepared to face the brother who once wanted him dead. But everything changed when Jacob was left alone beside the Jabbok River and wrestled with God. In this episode of the Good & Godly People of the Bible series, we follow Jacob’s remarkable journey from his birth holding Esau’s heel to receiving the new name Israel. We explore the stolen blessing, Jacob’s stairway at Bethel, his marriages to Leah and Rachel, the birth of his twelve sons, his reconciliation with Esau, the loss and restoration of Joseph, and his final blessings over the next generation. Jacob’s story is filled with deception, family conflict, fear, grief, reconciliation, and grace. Through every failure and consequence, God remained faithful—transforming a man who tried to seize blessing into one who learned to cling to God and worship Him. We also discover how Jacob’s stairway and his blessing over Judah point forward to Jesus Christ, the true meeting place between heaven and earth and the King through whom God’s blessing reaches the nations.
