Ep-459-Why to glorify mothers we have turned sacrifice into an expectation?
#Why do we glorify a mother's sacrifice so much? Shouldn't we pause and ask whether, somewhere along the way, we have turned sacrifice into an expectation? We praise the mother who gave up her dreams, her career, her friendships, her freedom and sometimes even her identity — and call it the highest form of motherhood. But why don't we equally celebrate the mother who chose to live? The mother who raised her children while pursuing her dreams. The mother who travelled. The mother who worked. The mother who made friends. The mother who fell in love with life again. The mother who discovered herself at 40, 50 or even 60. Every stage of her life is her first time too. She is learning how to be a daughter, a wife, a mother, a caregiver, and eventually an older woman — just as everyone else is learning how to live. Motherhood should add a beautiful dimension to a woman's life. It shouldn't erase the woman who existed before it. Let's appreciate mothers for their love and choices — not measure their worth by how much of themselves they sacrificed. Because a mother deserves to raise her children and still have a life of her own. Perhaps we don't need to glorify a mother for how much she gave up. Perhaps we should celebrate her for how fully she lived.
