61: Being Open-Minded Isn’t Always Growth
Being open-minded is usually seen as a good thing. A sign of growth, awareness and evolution. But what happens when being open begins to pull you away from your own truth? In this episode, I’m sharing a very personal experience from my trip to India earlier this year that challenged my beliefs and showed me just how easily fear, environment and the beliefs of those around us can begin to influence what we think is true. When my daughter became unwell, I found myself surrounded by a strong cultural belief about what might be happening to her. It wasn’t something I fully believed myself, yet little by little I noticed myself being pulled into the fear of what if they’re right? And that experience left me sitting with a much bigger question. We need to be open-minded if we want to learn, evolve and grow. But how do we remain open to new perspectives without becoming so open that we lose connection with ourselves? Perhaps the work isn’t to become more certain. Perhaps it’s to become more familiar with what truth feels like in your own body . So the next time something challenges what you believe, ask yourself: Is this expanding me, or pulling me away from what feels true? And then have the courage to follow what feels right for you.
