Exploring York County’s Craft Brewers of the past: PART II York County is blessed with abundant and clean water, and that resource with plentiful grains and proximity to markets have fueled the county’s longtime prowess in the brewing of beer and distilling of spirits. These same streams also became integral to other makers - furnaces forming iron, mills producing paper and tanneries treating leather. In the county’s long history, these many and varied demands on our precious water resources have clashed. Hometown History tells the story of our well-watered county and the challenges to that resource in the production of alcoholic beverages and so many other things part of everyday life.
