Ep 32 - The Salem Witch Trials
School holidays are officially taking their toll. Nanny attempts to beat the hosepipe ban by filling the paddling pool one bowl at a time, while Sian learns the hard way that buying cheap knives from a dodgy Del Boy-type bloke probably wasn’t her best investment. In Spin the Yarn, Sian takes us back to 1692 Massachusetts and the Salem Witch Trials. Were witches really burnt at the stake? Did they actually throw them in water to see if they floated? And how did Betty Parris and Abigail Williams help kick off one of history’s most infamous witch hunts? In What Have You Got?, Bobby fires some hard-hitting Croydon questions at Sian, which inevitably sends them down memory lane with stories about growing up there and just how rough it could be. Then in the algorithm, Bobby brings us the surprisingly wholesome tale of a seagull returning a woman’s tenner, while Sian discovers the Japanese sport of Spogomi – competitive litter picking… or, as Bobby puts it, “sounds like slave labour to me.” Witch hunts, Croydon memories and competitive rubbish collecting.
