Jrodconcerts: The Podcast
Sally Jaye on Capricorn Sound Studios, Unlearning Classical Rules, and Finding Grace Beyond Heartbreak
Singer-songwriter Sally Jaye joins Jamie on Jrodconcerts: The Podcast for an intimate, vulnerable look into the seasons of turbulence and triumph behind her album, You’ll Be Okay, Baby. Tracked at the legendary Capricorn Sound Studios in Macon, Georgia, with acclaimed songwriter-artist Brent Cobb producing—alongside contributions from Nashville bassist/producer Ted Pecchio—the record channels Georgia’s rich sonic soil into an honest, warm embrace. Sally dives into the spiritual weight of working among Capricorn’s historic ghosts, reconnecting with her home state, and crafting songs that balance world-weary acceptance with unabashed joy. Across the conversation, Sally reflects on the defining milestones of her artistic life: unlearning the rigid technical boundaries of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, navigating the storied Los Angeles Hotel Café scene, co-writing the end-credits song for the film If Only and playing it in a room for Jennifer Love Hewitt, the backstage wisdom passed down by Judy Collins during the filming of the TV series Christy, and the gritty realities of owning independent label Café Rooster Records. Topics Discussed: Pitching and playing the If Only end-credits song for Jennifer Love Hewitt and the director The surreal shift of seeing your original music featured on screens worldwide Acting as "Bessie" in the television series Christy and sharing the set with Judy Collins Enduring career and personal advice delivered by Judy Collins during filming The vulnerable origin of You’ll Be Okay, Baby and soothing yourself after personal upheaval Tracking at Macon’s historic Capricorn Sound Studios with Brent Cobb at the helm Channeling deep Southern grooves and falling back in love with Georgia Dissecting "Lovin’ And Losin’": writing to heal versus documenting raw heartbreak Capturing humor, swagger, and romantic levity on "Making Pretty Babies" Breaking away from classical vocal rules to find an authentic, intuitive songwriting voice The highs, lows, and business lessons of launching and running Café Rooster Records The perspective and acceptance running through "Win Some, Lose Some" Connect with Sally Jaye: Website: https://www.sallyjaye.org Instagram: https://instagram.com/sallyjaye Connect with Jrodconcerts Media: Website: jrodconcertsmedia.com Instagram: @jrodconcertsmedia Support The Show: DoorDash: When life gets crazy, DoorDash helps bring some order to it.
