Seven-Year-Old K9 Shadow Still Rules the Games | Kansas City News
Seven-year-old police dog Shadow stole the show at the K-9 Games in Topeka, winning first place in the high-stakes “Keyless Entry” event — a real-world agility challenge that mimics police work. While speed isn’t his strong suit anymore, Shadow’s confidence, intelligence, and love for the job carried him through a daring course involving tunnels, truck jumps, and suspect apprehensions. His handler, Corporal Josh Doncouse, calls him his best friend and marvels at how Shadow learns fast, thrives on action, and even overcame early training hurdles like a sensitive stomach. Despite retirement looming, Shadow shows no signs of slowing down — he’d rather be in the squad car than home, driven by purpose and pure joy in his work.
